OFFICIAL RULES

SOFT SHELL *GAME BREAKER* HELMETS ARE REQUIRED

General Rules

  • Each field will have 2 officials: A Head Referee behind the QB, and Back Judge behind the secondary.

  • Teams will play at least 3 Pool Play games & will then play in at least 1 game in the elimination rounds. 4 games guaranteed.

  • There is a ZERO TOLERANCE stance on fighting. Any punches or kicks will be an AUTOMATIC ejection from the game (and/or Tournament), no questions asked.

  • There is NO LAUNCHING THE BALL in the air in celebration of a turnover by the defense. This will be called for an unsportsmanlike penalty and result in that team’s offense losing their first down on the upcoming possession after the penalty.

  • If an injury occurs during a pool play game and a player is down on the field, the game clock will keep running. During elimination games the clock will stop for an injured player on the field.

  • Games cannot end on a Defensive Penalty; the penalty will be enforced against the Defense and then there will be an untimed down played to end the game. A game can end on an Offensive penalty; the clock will stay running on all offensive penalties, so if the Offense commits a penalty and time runs to 0:00 then the game is over.

  • FUMBLES

-If the ball is fumbled by a ballcarrier, there is no turnover and the ball will be spotted where the ballcarrier fumbled. Defensive players cannot cause a fumble by punching or stripping the ball loose.

- If a QB or snapper drops the ball off the QB Tee and the ball hits the ground & stays behind the line; the QB can pick the ball up and still has the 4 second count to throw the ball. However the play will be called dead and count as a down, if the ball is fumbled off the QB Tee and crosses the line of scrimmage.

  • The QB must make all passes towards the LOS, a QB cannot throw the ball laterally behind him. A pass can be caught at or behind the LOS, as long as the pass is caught in front of the QB's position behind the LOS.

  • Diving as a defender to make a tag is ILLEGAL, or as a runner to pick up yards. If violated by the Defense, it will be an automatic first down from the spot of the foul. If violated by the offense, the ball will be placed at the spot the runner left their feet.

  • NO RUN PLAYS or DOUBLE PASSES

  • In Elimination Rounds, each team will receive 1 30-second Timeout in the FINAL 2 MINUTES of the Game.

  • NO TIMEOUTS in POOL PLAY

Game Play

  • We will use Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine which team starts on Offense.

  • Games are 20 minutes long and will be played with a running clock.

  • NO TIMEOUTS in POOL PLAY

  • In Elimination Rounds, each team will receive 1 30-second Timeout in the FINAL 2 MINUTES of the Game.

  • If a play begins before the clock hits zero, the resulting play will stand.

  • A ball carrier is down with one-hand touch rules.

  • Defensive players may not leave their feet (dive) to make a one-hand touch. This is the same for Ball-Carriers, who are not allowed to leave their feet (dive) while running with the ball to pick up extra yards.

  • Offense is not permitted to block. First offense is a warning. After that, the ball will go back to the original line of scrimmage of that play, and the offense will be given a loss of down.

  • Each possession will start on the 40-yard line.

  • The Offense has 3 downs to get to the 25-yard line for a first down.

  • Then 3 downs to get from the 25-yard line to the 10-yard line.

  • Then 3 downs to get from the 10-yard line into the end zone.

  • The QB will have 4 seconds to throw the ball.

  • If the QB does not release the ball before the 4-second count, it is counted as a sack.

  • All passes MUST be completed beyond the line of scrimmage. This means no screens or double passes.

  • Only 1 run per game. Cannot be used in Overtime.

Blitz Rules

  • Each team is allowed 1 Blitz per game.

  • Blitzer can be on the line of scrimmage if he is outside the tackle box, or five yards from the line of scrimmage if he is inside the tackle box. If this rule is violated, the penalty is 5-yards & replay the down, or the Offense may accept the result of the play by declining the penalty.

  • If the Offense accepts the result of the play when the Blitz rule is violated, that counts as the 1 Blitz for the Defense.

  • If the Offense chooses to replay the down, the Defense will still have their 1 Blitz for the game.

  • There is no limit on the amount of Defensive players allowed to rush the QB during their team's Blitz.

  • When the Defense Blitzes, the 4 second throw clock is eliminated.

  • When the Defense Blitzes, the QB becomes live, and may cross the line of scrimmage as a runner.

  • If the QB is touched down by a Defensive Blitz, the ball will be placed at the spot of the touch. If touched behind the 40, the ball is placed on the 40.

Penalties

  • False Starts & Illegal Procedure penalties will result in a loss of down.

  • Offensive Pass Interference is a loss of five yards and the down will be replayed.

  • Offense is not permitted to block. First offense is a warning. After that, the ball will go back to the original line of scrimmage, and the offense will be given a loss of down.

  • If the original line of scrimmage was the 40-yard line on an Offensive penalty, the Offense receives a loss of down.

  • If the ball is on the 40-yard line, and the Offense commits a penalty on 3rd down, it's a turnover on downs.

  • Each team will have 35 seconds from the end of a play to get the next snap off. Delay of game is an automatic loss of down.

  • Illegal Hands to the face is a 5-yard penalty & is a warning to the offending player. Another offense by the same player, may result in the player being sidelined for the remainder of the game.

  • Defensive holding is 5-yard penalty and an automatic first down.

  • Defensive Pass Interference is an automatic first down at the spot of the foul.

  • If a Defensive P.I. foul occurs in the end zone, the ball will be placed on the one yard line, and the Offense will be given a first down.

  • If a Defensive foul occurs on the final play of regulation, the Offense will receive one untimed down from the spot of the foul. If the Offense scores on the untimed down, they will receive one untimed conversion.

  • Unsportsmanlike Conduct will be a 10-yard penalty. Additionally, if committed by the Defense it will also result in an automatic first down for the Offense. If committed by the Offense, it will result in a loss of down as well.

Scoring Rules

  • A touchdown is worth 6 points.

  • The Offense can elect to receive an automatic 1-point PAT.

  • If the Offense selects to go for a 2-point conversion, they will run a play from the 10-yard line.

  • Offensive Pass Interference on a conversion is automatic loss of down.

  • Defensive Pass Interference on a 2-point conversion; first offense, ball moved to 5 yard line and 2-point conversion is replayed. Second offense on same conversion, the Offense is automatically awarded the 2-point conversion.

  • Should a TD occur on the final play of regulation, the Offense will receive one untimed down if they elect to go for the 2-point conversion.

  • An Interception is worth 3 points to the Defense.

  • There are no returning INT's for touchdowns.

  • There are no points awarded for INT's during 2-point conversions.

  • There are no points awarded for 3 & Outs -- Defensive stops.

Tie-breaking Procedures & Overtime Rules

  • We will use Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine which team will go first. This will be done in every new Overtime set.

  • Each team will receive one Offensive play from the 40-yard line.

  • No Timeouts or Blitzes in Overtime, these can only be used in regulation.

  • The Offense that gains the most yards on their play will be declared the winner.

  • If there is still a tie at the end of the Overtime, the same rules will be used until a winner is declared. Rock-Paper-Scissors will again set who receives the ball first & who is on defense to start the OT period.

  • There is no game clock in OT. The play clock and throw clock will remain in use.
